Hosea 8:7-14
REAPING THE WHIRLWIND
“They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no head; it will produce no flour. Were it to yield grain, foreigners would swallow it up.” Hosea 8:7, NIV
A farmer who planted good seed is expected to reap something during harvest, not the same quantity he planted but multiple folds of what he planted. As humans, we all expect results from whatever we do. Thus, you must be ready to live with the consequences of your action. Whatever a man sows the same he shall reap. In today’s passage, the Lord uses metaphor of wind and whirlwind to describe Israel’s deeds and the consequence of her deeds. Sowing the wind and reaping the whirlwind connotes that Israel has sown the seed of unrighteousness and she was going to reap judgment. Reaping whirlwind reveals that, the consequence of her deeds will be very severe and disastrous to the extent that none of them would be able to withstand it.
Friend, what are you sowing? Be aware that you are going to reap what you are sowing in multiple folds. If you sow deceit, lies, cheating, sexual promiscuity, hatred, murder and so on you will surely reap appropriate reward in no distant time. God will repay you with the same measure. Therefore, sow righteousness so that you can reap mercy.
• Birthday Blessing: The LORD will… once again… choose Israel and will settle them in their land…. Isaiah 14:1
